Want to Generate Way More Than You Spend? Do This Now.
Do you get excited about learning new ways to create real financial growth?
It takes small shifts, every day. They add up. And over time, these day-to-day choices create the kind of financial success you can count on for the long run.
The other day, I was in a session with one of my amazing clients, and we started talking about the pain of consuming. If you know my money story, you know just how familiar that pain is.
We live in a culture of consumption. Have you noticed?
Whether we're consuming food, clothes, electronics, social media, phones, homes, cars, or even information.
Advertising follows us everywhere, tracking our habits and preferences to catch us at the most vulnerable moments and drive us again and again to those things we think we need or desire.
It reminds me of a Buddhist teaching which states that desire is the root of all suffering.
Not that I'm against desire. Of course, desire is so essential to the human experience. Yet, when desires become unconscious cravings, they trap us in Samsara (endless cycles of suffering and karma).
Does our consumption increase our satisfaction? Or does it increase our suffering?
Do our purchases bring us satiation, freedom, and happiness in life?
Maybe — temporarily.
Yet, past a certain point, consuming can turn into a strange monster. A black hole that, instead of bringing us joy, starts to turn on us.
Suddenly, we feel even more empty. Drained. Depressed. Or we're overcome with feelings of guilt, shame, and regret.
Sound familiar?
What is the tipping point for you? And what's the pain underneath it?
One thing is for sure: too much consumption drains us of real inspiration.
The good news is, we all have a simple choice: to focus on creating, instead of consuming.
That could be creating art, creating businesses, or creating things that will give back to people or the planet. It can even be creating a clear vision for the life you feel truly inspired by.
Wondering what that might look like?
Here's a practical example.
I recently watched a Ted Talk by Gregory Boyle, founder of Homeboy Industries. Boyle is an expert on gangs, intervention, and re-entry.
I was hugely inspired by his vision, which focuses on giving jobs to gang members in California, and pioneering a movement that's now taking place across the US.
Meanwhile, I've seen some of my friends and clients doing amazing experiments to cut back their consumption, like riding a bike to work instead of driving a car to reduce their carbon footprint.
Or designating a single trash container in their garage for one year's worth of trash to see just how much they could reduce their waste pile.
What about you?
Where do you feel called to create instead of consume?
Maybe it's a particular cause that's dear to your heart.
Or an area of your life where you feel drawn to give all of your passion and devotion.
Or a creative dream you've had for as long as you can remember.
What do you know in your gut you can focus on creating now? Contributing now?
And how can you start giving it more attention TODAY?
And.. between you and me, let's be honest: Where in your life can you cut the indulgences that just don't feed your soul?
What are the inconspicuous consumption habits that drain your energy and inspiration?
And lastly, let me ask you this: What do you think would happen if you took the exact same amount of time, energy, and money you invest in your consumption, and instead, turn it towards some kind of creation?
I work with clients to create financial spending plans that focus on where money can be most leveraged practically, spiritually, and emotionally. Plans that are rooted in intention, instead of falling into the trap of consumption.
I would love to support you in shifting your focus from consumption to creation!
